Closure-full For three decades, Astral has supported the early careers of classical musicians. We are proud of the work and of the positive impact it has made on our artists, laureates, and the classical music industry. Astral Artists are active recitalists, soloists, festival directors, professors of music, recording artists and highly acclaimed musicians in the field.

Those achievements notwithstanding, the economic landscape for arts and culture organizations in Philadelphia is ever changing and has grown ever more challenging. As a result, after thorough and careful consideration, our leadership and Board of Directors have concluded that these economic and fundraising conditions have greatly affected our ability, particularly given our size, to sustain ourselves financially. Therefore, we are heartbroken to share that in the coming year, Astral Artists will close its doors.

We have a plan in place to wind down our operations thoughtfully and compassionately. It includes presenting two final recitals this fall and working with our current rostered artists to ensure they leave Astral with individualized and comprehensive portfolios that include promotional assets and specific work plans for their future projects.

Astral has always championed and recognized that arts and culture, specifically classical music, must adapt in various ways so that listeners connect and relate. Astral Artists themselves drive this essential approach to performances and will carry it forward in their own, individual ways.

We are most grateful to Astral’s founder, Vera Wilson, for her vision, to our artists and laureates for their inspiration, and to all of you, our donors and patrons, who have provided your steadfast support these many years.

From all of us, thank you.
