Lidia Kaminska
accordion/bandoneon

A winner of Astral Artists’ 2007 National Auditions, Astral has presented accordionist Lidia Kaminska in recital, and features her in February 2010 in a program with Astral saxophonist Doug O’Connor. Philadelphia Magazine claims the Poland native “causes jaws to drop at concert halls from Europe to the Kimmel Center.” The recipient of a 2009 Career Advancement Award from the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia, Ms. Kaminska received a Master’s degree from the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, and at age 25 became the first (and only) person in the U.S. to receive a Doctorate in Accordion Performance, from the University of Missouri/Kansas City. She conceived her first album, Breaking Boundaries, as part of her mission to change the perception of the accordion from parlor entertainment to a serious classical instrument. She recently performed in concert with legendary tenor Plácido Domingo in Washington, D.C.’s Constitution Hall, and has been presented in Carnegie’s Zankel Hall and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. She has appeared as soloist with Symphony in C, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Friends of Chamber Music, and with contemporary music ensembles New Ear and Musica Nova. She has also collaborated with the Kansas City Ballet, BalletX, and the Argentinean ensemble Tango Lorca. Spring 2007 marked Ms. Kaminska’s bandoneón debut, at Lincoln Center. This season, she is featured on tour with Cirque du Soleil, in its popular Alegría show. Other upcoming engagements include her Merkin Recital Hall debut in New York, an appearance with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players, and a recital at Eastern College for Tri County Concerts.
