About Julietta Curenton
The winner of the 2005 National Flute Association’s Young Artists Competition, flutist Julietta Curenton also captured the top prize at young artist competitions sponsored by New York Flute Club, Friday Morning Music Club, and the Mid-Atlantic Flute Club. She is also a winner of Astral Artists’ 2010 National Auditions, and has appeared as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Kennedy Center Institute Orchestra, Alexandria Symphony, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, U.S. Army Orchestra, and the Fairfax Band. Ms. Curenton also performs as a member of Duo Rhone (with harpist Bridget Kibbey), which captured the Premier Prix at the International Chamber Music Competition in Arles, France. As an orchestral musician, Ms. Curenton is currently principal flute of the Soulful Symphony, and makes frequent appearances with both the Virginia and Richmond symphonies. She has also appeared with many Grammy-nominated and award-winning gospel artists, and frequently performs with The Curenton Family. As a recent fellow of The Academy – A Program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and The Weill Music Institute (Ensemble ACJW), Ms. Curenton participated in numerous educational outreach performances in the New York metro area, and appeared in Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and Skidmore College during the 2008-2010 seasons. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School and a Master of Music degree from The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.
