A winner of Astral Artists’ 2003 National Auditions, Doug O’Connor recently captured Second Prize at the II International Jean-Marie Londeix Saxophone Competition in Bangkok; the prize also earned him concert engagements with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. Also the second-prize winner of the 2008 North American Saxophone Alliance Classical Solo Competition and the National 2007 first-prize winner of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Woodwind Performance Competition, he has been a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, and gave his New York recital debut in Merkin Concert Hall. Astral presented Mr. O’Connor’s Philadelphia recital debut and featured him in a program with other Astral artists at Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center. Astral has also presented him on a “Rising Stars” concert (as soloist with The Haddonfield Symphony Chamber Orchestra in Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto), and features him on its concert series this season. Mr. O’Connor has performed across Europe and the U.S., including appearances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall, and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. He was the winner of the 2004 National Symphony Orchestra Young Soloists Competition, the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Homer Ulrich Competition. Mr. O’Connor holds a Bachelor of Music Performance degree in saxophone from the University of Maryland. He recently earned a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.
