About Dísella Làrusdóttir
Soprano Dísella Làrusdóttir was a winner of Astral’s 2006 National Auditions and joined the Astral Artist roster that year. A National Finalist in the 2007 Metropolitan National Council Auditions, she covered the role of Miss Schlesen in the Met’s production of Philip Glass’s Satyagraha in the spring of 2008. Astral presented the Iceland native’s Philadelphia orchestral debut in both Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and the Astral-commissioned world première of Andrea Clearfield’s The Rim of Love, with the Haddonfield Symphony Chamber Orchestra in the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Her New York Recital debut in Merkin Concert Hall was also presented by Astral, a performance in which The New York Times claimed “her voice shimmered like silver.” Astral presents her in April 2010 on its “Rising Stars” concert at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, in Sibelius’s Luonnotar for Soprano and Orchestra with Symphony in C. The winner of the Vocal Division of The Philadelphia Orchestra’s 2007 Albert M. Greenfield Competition, Ms. Làrusdóttir debuted with the Orchestra in January 2008, under Christoph Eschenbach, at its 151st Academy Concert & Ball. She has also appeared as soloist in the Glière Concerto for Soprano and Orchestra with Symphony in C, and appeared with the Symphony Orchestra of Iceland. In October 2009 she made her debut with the Iceland National Opera as Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Ms. Làrusdóttir holds a Master of Music degree from Westminster Choir College of Rider University.
